How to remove a Gemini watermark

For an existing image you own or may edit, start with the original download, check the visible bottom-right star, and review any processed result before saving it.

Open the free image tool ↗

Start with the original image

Use the image file downloaded from Gemini where possible. Screenshots, resizing, cropping and repeated compression can change the star’s position or appearance and make a reliable match harder.

WatermarkLift accepts opaque, static PNG, JPEG and WebP images. It targets known visible sparkle overlays near the bottom-right corner; it is not a general logo eraser and does not prove an image came from Gemini.

  • Up to 10 images per batch; 20 MiB per file and 100 MiB total input.
  • 256–4096 pixels per side; up to 12 million pixels per image and 24 million pixels per batch.
  • No transparent images, animations, GIF, SVG, HEIC or video.

Only use images you own or have permission to edit. Keep a copy of the original, especially if you need its metadata or provenance.

Clean, compare and download in four steps

  1. Choose your images

Open the Gemini watermark remover, choose one or several supported images, or drag them into the workspace. Importing loads the files locally; it does not upload them. Renamed copies with identical bytes are detected as duplicates.

  2. Confirm your editing rights and start

Tick the permission checkbox, then choose Clean images. The browser checks the overlay and estimates the pixels beneath it using known alpha templates. There is no external model call. You can cancel; validated cancelled files can be retried.

  3. Inspect the result at full resolution

A Cleaned · review status means a result passed this tool’s checks, not that it is perfect. Drag the comparison slider and choose Inspect corner at 1:1. Look for a remaining star, altered texture, halos or color shifts. If the result looks worse, use the original.

  4. Save a PNG, an original or a ZIP

Download PNG saves an edited, newly encoded PNG, including when the input was JPEG or WebP. Download ZIP includes only cleaned PNGs. Download original preserves the exact input file. Review every cleaned image before using the batch.

ONE SAMPLE, UP CLOSE

Review the corner before you download.

These are corner views from one public, MIT-licensed upstream sample processed by WatermarkLift. Compare the star and the surrounding texture.

Why an image may stay unchanged

An unchanged result is intentional when the tool cannot reliably match or clean the visible overlay. Read the reason beside the image before trying again.

StatusWhat to do
Original keptNo reliable match or a quality check failed. Try the original, unmodified download. Repeated retries on the same file are not evidence that it can be cleaned.
Could not processCheck the file’s format, dimensions and size. A corrupt or unsupported file needs a valid supported original; a transient processing failure may be retried when offered.
CancelledUse Retry, then Clean images, if you want to resume a validated file. No cancelled output is presented as a success.

Skipped and failed images are excluded from the cleaned ZIP. Their originals remain available. Changing file extensions or increasing compression does not fix an unsupported input.

What a cleaned PNG does and does not preserve

Inverse blending estimates covered pixels. Compression, rounding and clipped colors can prevent exact recovery, so this is not a promise of lossless restoration. PNG encoding may omit source metadata, including Content Credentials, or affect invisible signals.

WatermarkLift provides no dedicated SynthID or C2PA removal or verification, and does not guarantee their preservation. Read the visible watermark, SynthID and Content Credentials guide before relying on an edited export. Removing a visible star does not establish that an image is non-AI.

For your next image, check Gemini’s own setting

Google’s web app offers Settings → Media Watermark for new generations. Availability depends on your region and plan. Check Google’s current instructions ↗. This setting is separate from SynthID and Content Credentials, and is not an editor for an existing local file.

Privacy during processing

Images and previews stay in browser memory. WatermarkLift has no image upload endpoint, account, cloud image storage or remote model. Ahrefs measures visits and fixed tool events, without image files, filenames, pixels or result explanations. See the privacy notice. The host serves the app and public example assets. Clear the batch or close the page to release image references; downloaded files stay in your browser’s download location.
